NEWS FROM WATSON STOCKFEEDS

The 24th of October was an important date in the diary for those in and around Taroom in Central Queensland, Australia. Leading agribusiness Watson Stockfeeds hosted farmers from the Region to a day focused on ruminant health and nutrition. This included a close look at the functioning of the ruminant digestive system, some key dietary components and discussions about optimized forage conservation strategies.

Sonia Watson, co-owner of the business with her husband Campbell introduced speakers on various topics, including a close up look at the cow’s stomach and digestive system plus important criteria in the feeding to optimize the health and high performance of growing cattle. ‘’I have been delighted by the interest our event has sparked locally and the open discussions that have been had today, across a range of important nutritional topics’ commented Sonia.

Another attendee was James Charteris-Hough, Managing Director of Sydney based Algebra Bio, who talked about an interesting concept used by Watson as an important component in its stockfeed range in the form of Bio-MetaPRO. He outlined to the audience the key benefits from the balance of protein types, the safe NPN attributes, the hidden bonus benefits from the fermentation metabolites and especially from the organic acids.

Campbell Watson who works very closely with major livestock businesses in the Region was pleased to report some great responses to the introduction of Bio-MetaPRO. “It has a great positioning in our current feed range and we are investigating other feed and supplement strategies to help maximise the benefits to be derived from the product”stated Campbell.

The event was held at the headquarters of the Watson Stockfeed business at 74 Donners Road in Taroom.
