A recently published review in the Journal of Veterinary Research (August 8, 2025) has highlighted the growing importance of trained immunity as a promising strategy to strengthen animal health in intensive livestock, poultry, and aquaculture systems.
Trained immunity refers to the ability of the innate immune system to build a faster and stronger response after exposure to certain stimuli. Unlike traditional adaptive immunity from vaccines, trained immunity helps animals respond more effectively to a wide range of pathogens, particularly under stress or environmental challenges.
Why Trained Immunity Matters?
In modern farming, animals are frequently exposed to stress, high stocking density, mycotoxins, and environmental pathogens. These factors can compromise the immune system and reduce the effectiveness of vaccination programs. As a result, farmers are seeking natural tools to boost immune resilience and reduce disease risks.
The review paper highlights that yeast-derived β-glucans (1,3/ 1,6 linkages) are among the most effective natural compounds for activating trained immunity. Research cited in the review shows that dietary β-glucans can:
Provide heterologous protection against bacterial infections in aquaculture.
Demonstrate protective effects against viral infections in livestock and poultry.
Enhance the activity of innate immune cells such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils, leading to stronger disease resistance.
X-MOS & GLUCAN-X: High-Purity Yeast β-Glucans for Farm Animals
Backed by science and supported by field experience, X-MOS and GLUCAN-X represent advanced yeast cell wall technologies designed to maximize immune support and gut health.
High concentration of β-glucans (≥27–31%) to stimulate trained immunity and immune modulation.
Mannan-Oligosaccharides (MOS, ≥23%) to bind harmful bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella, reducing pathogen load in the gut.
Proven to support better vaccine response, stronger gut integrity, and resilience during stress challenges.
This dual-action approach — immune modulation plus gut health — makes X-MOS and GLUCAN-X more valuable than products with only pure β-glucan content.
A Natural Solution for Modern Farming
While no single product can be considered a “cure-all,” yeast β-glucans are increasingly recognized as a key building block in biosecurity programs. With trained immunity gaining global attention, incorporating yeast β-glucans into feeding strategies can help farmers enhance disease resistance, reduce vulnerability to outbreaks, and safeguard long-term productivity.
